"Did you see that? What that Hummer just did? Why do I get moving violations and that guy zooms off?"
"Well, I think that's technically legal. Though not advised, and kind of a dick thing to do. Kind of like driving a Hummer, I guess."

My car got totalled yesterday, by a pick-up truck rear-ending it (it was going pretty fast and I was stopped). I'm going through the stages of grief already. I'm now in a nasty tin can of a rental--a Kia, for heaven's sake.

I'll admit that I had the thought that driving a gigantic 100-ton SUV type car might not be that bad an idea. But it was just a passing thought! I'll probably get another Mazda since I loved my car more than a person probably should. If I can get a car loan.

Sigh.

marinered - see a lawyer. You can't imagine what your future medical bills might be. And having been in a few accidents, your neck will start to hurt in a day or so. See a doctor and keep records. And then you won't have to get a car loan.

Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles. I was on Bragg when they originally fielded them. About a month later post regulations limited them to 35mph because the bellhousing would come apart on the transmission if you drove at sustained speeds above that. Our prime thought at that time was "Dear Lord, do not let us get sent to war in this piece of crap." Also, the floor of the bed is more than 5 ft off the ground. So, you're in the back of this truck and it gets ambushed. Half the people break their necks trying to get out of the truck, the other half get shot in the truck waiting for the first half trying not to break their necks getting out. Our company's best time to clear 18 soldiers out of the back of the truck was 35 seconds, or about 4 seconds per soldier (2 exiting the truck at a time). 2/3 longer than the same soldiers took to clear a duece and a half. Plenty of time for an enemy to take a really good aim at you as you get out of the truck. Bring back the the old duece. The way I figure it, anyone that buys one gets what they deserve.

A fine song by the President of the United States of America, on their latest CD. Finally, a song explaining the real difference between boys and girls!

Girls, girls, girls, girls are so polite
They don't crush everything that they see
You can take 'em to a funky funky forest with big glass spiderwebs
Hangin' from the ceilin'
They wouldn't feel the uncontrollable urge
To tip and push and kick and rip and tear and smash and squish and...

Poke and destroy
Poke and destroy
Poke and destroy
I'm a boy, I wanna poke and destroy!
Poke and destroy
Poke and destroy
Poke and destroy
I'm a boy, I wanna poke and destroy!

Boys, boys, boys, boys are set to kill
They wanna crush everything that they see
You could take 'em to a creepy museum with dinosaur bones
Hangin' from the ceilin'
They'd feel the uncontrollable urge
To tip and push and kick and rip and tear and smash and squish and'

Poke and destroy!
Poke and destroy!
Poke and destroy!
I'm a boy, I wanna poke and destroy!
Poke and destroy!
Poke and destroy!
Poke and destroy!
I'm a boy, I wanna poke and destroy!

(poke, poke, poke, poke, poke, poke, poke, poke, poke, poke, poke and destroy!)
I want to poke!

(kick it down, rip it down, burn it down and kick it! Yeah!)
And destroy

Out in the wild with a girl I know
She see a little thing in the sand
She pretend to leave it alone, leave the creature in it's home
But I don't understand

If I find a delicate thing
I wonder how it would look split at the seams
Girls talk, say "it's beautiful"
I gotta poke it to know it, I gotta LIGHT IT ON FIRE AND...

Poke and destroy!
Poke and destroy!
Poke and destroy!
I'm a boy, I wanna poke and destroy!
Poke and destroy!
Poke and destroy!
Poke and destroy!
I'm a boy, I wanna poke and destroy!
Poke and destroy! (and destroy)
Poke and destroy! (and destroy)
Poke and destroy! (and destroy)
Poke and destroy! (and destroy)
Poke and destroy! (and destroy)
Poke and destroy! (and destroy)
Poke and destroy! (and destroy)
I'm a boy, I wanna poke and destroeeeee...ahhh...(cough cough)...ahem!

Who are these people, anyway? I've seen the commercials on TV, and I just don't get it.

I hate SUVs, too, and all they stand for (or roll for, or roll over for). Whatever.

Well
Posted by Apple on Fri, 02/04/2005 - 4:41pm.
I'm not defending the total morons that really don't need something like that, but I could see some use out of it for some businesses. You know, construction, hauling, towing, what have you.

And, someone should really start some kind of national law requiring larger vehicles to require a special class license, just like CDLs but for non-commercial use.

Get Fuzzy!

Posted by Matt on Thu, 02/03/2005 - 2:41pm.
Maybe if that site existed a year ago, my buddy and his family would still have their Honda Passport. He never gave me all the details, but apparently he had to swerve for some reason, which caused the SUV to shift its weight considerably, and he wasn't able to correct the steering to prevent it from rolling over.
Matt's link worked!

Which is amazing! And oh, I am so glad it did. I heart that cartoon, truly.

In other news, I wanted a Humvee long before they were commercially available, thanks to a little show called...hmmm...what WAS that called? There was a fortyish bald guy who led a team of spies...anyway, they drove a Hummer and I drooled over it. Not for protection, not because I was ignoring my love for the environment, but because it was big, black and hot. Judge me if you will. I have a VERY small penis...one might say non-existent. The proliferation of them into the world has taken away from the hotness, however. And if you're going to buy a Hummer, why, WHY paint it yellow?

.
Posted by Cebu on Wed, 02/02/2005 - 3:07pm.
Big black and hot. That's how she likes 'em.

I first saw one at an auto show in Grand Rapids. I hated it then, too. I don't get it.

I thought for a second you were commiserating the proliferation of penises (peni?).

I loved that commercial where the guy's driving through his neighborhood in his YOOge SUV, bragging about all the features, and then it destroys his garage with its very vastness. heh.

and yes, yellow hummer=yech.

I'm also not overly fond of the Honda Elements. They look like boxes. And not pretty boxes, either.

the reason i thought the timing was so appropriate is because i took a picture yesterday: http://stefficus.freefronthost.com/happyjoe.gif (cut and paste... it's just storage, it won't work in a hyperlink.)

That's why we couldn't tell ya!

Anyway, if anybody's ever swinging through Rolla, feel free to give me an email if you'd like to get together for a meal or drinks or something... hell, email me and brian65401, we're both currently in Rolla, if memory serves. (Speaking of which, I don't know how it is I haven't met brian yet, but we haven't. Both been busy, I guess.)

The middle of everywhere
Posted by brian65401 on Fri, 02/11/2005 - 6:31am.
Yup, I'm here in Rolla. Been very busy since moving in though, most of the working on the house is done. I think the only projects left are more construction, and less "just painting." Still have to tear out the kitchen floor (subfloor and all) and replace. Oh, and the carport needs to be enclosed and made into a real garage, and it would be nice to replace some of these 64 year old single pane windows. But, as of the middle of last week, the move was officially over. The city of Rolla hauled off about 20 boxes that we hadn't opened since the move, and a small pile of trash. The basement is now free of post-move clutter and is in full use as workshop, gym, and air gun range. Oh yeah...workshop...this was my winter project. That finally got Grandma's china out of the boxes they've been in for the last 10 years.

We should get together for lunch or something.
