I suspect the same thing holds true for drunkenness as it does for sleep deprivation... changes your self perception a bit.

And on another subject, I wonder if I have selective hearing... filters of some sort. I went to LA with high hopes that I'd get some really cool atypical quotes, but then the first thing I heard was rather stereotypically LA.

When I'm sleep-deprived, I often find myself staring at walls for minutes on end, until someone catches my attention. And if I push it far enough, I end up feeling as if my insides have been hollowed out. This happens disturbingly often :)

obsidiana, that certainly explains a whole hell of a lot. oh, and now i'm in virtual love with jon, not mike, and i can't at the moment remember why - it was something he said. just thought everyone should have waaaayyyy too much information, as i'm sleep deprived at the moment myself. ever notice how sometimes getting too much sleep makes you loopy and horrible looking too? fortunately that rarely happens to me.

You don't get it... He was offering "on the phone" as an alternative to either "beautiful" or "sleep-deprived". The question is, which combinations are mutually exclusive? Can one be beautiful and on the phone at the same time? How about beautiful, sleep deprived AND on the phone?
