"I think the theme song for cross country snowboarding would have to be 'The Time Warp.'"

Igirly, isn't that from the song with the two Japanese making up poems about rain and mist? And the one's visited Boston, and so his poems are about America, and the other's are about his wife... Um. Yeah. I have it on a CD somewhere, but I don't think it's up here with me.

I'm blanking on that, girly, my memory is full of Swiss Cheese holes.

Actually got to see "Miss Saigon" on Broadway with the original Engineer... Jonathan Pryce's "The American Dream" was worth the price of admission. At the time, I was pretty captivated by the show as a whole... then my feelings for it faded a bit. Some of the duets are really good though.

Les Miz - I'd probably like it more, if I hadn't heard so many audition songs from it in college. Overload..

It doesn't really destroy it, Jon. You see, it's found in the sets of things we enjoy, not necessarily the thing itself. We enjoy musicals. I enjoy many of them including Sondheim, and including the interesting social commentary of the classic big production musicals.

You see? "Your turn..." (as a sondheim fan, you should recognize that.)

Sweeney Todd? A Little Night Music? Company? Just curious--what do you think of "Miss Saigon"? Granted, it isn't Sondheim, but....

On fishnet stockings: I have come to the conclusion that black hose make my legs look great. Black fishnet thigh-highs, with my pretty black skirt, and my four inch strappy heels show everything off to perfection. Hurray for fishnet.

And speaking of tights and stuff, it is great to be back in my dance clothes after a month off from school. :)

I think it was more along the lines of she told her parents (who had never heard of Rocky) that she was performing in a show. Her parents, being the supportive people they were, decided to come and see her. Truthfully, I was a little more disturbed by the woman who brought her 7 or 8 year old daughter to see the Picture Show. Granted, when I was younger my parents would watch questionable things on TV or video at home, but we were usually told to watch TV in the other room. If we saw it, we saw it. If not, so much the better. But honestly--who would take their 7 year old daughter to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show?

Why on Earth did she invite her parents?

My freshman year of highschool I was supposed to sit on this guy's lap for our class one act, but I couldn't do it in the performance, because I knew my parents and grandparents were in the audience. I wouldn't even let my parents see the last play I was in, because it involved audience participation, and I knew they'd throw me off too much.

Amusing story about Rocky: the girl who was Janet in the floor show (here at Sam) invited her parents to came and see it. To date she had only been in church pageants and things that were wholesome and good. Yeah. Well, her parents came up to see the show and sat in the top row. After everyone took the oath at the beginning, her dad stopped smiling. The mom laughed. By the time they reached the part where Frank goes into Brad and Janet's respective bedrooms, the father had this stone-faced glare on, and the mother was caught between laughing and sliding worried glances over to the father. I think he may have walked out the door during the "Touch Me" song with Janet and Rocky. The director for the floor show kept coming in to watch the parent's reactions. She was cracking up the whole time. I think the mom eventually smoothed things over, but it took awhile for the dad to get over seeing his daughter engaged in pseudo-sexual acts on a stage.

Contrary to what appears to be popular belief, you aren't really missing much.
That being said, you should see the thing at least once in your life. I have a feeling the theatrics and such that go on during the regular showings are really what the draw is for most people, and not so much the movie itself.
But some jokes you've never really understood might suddenly make more sense, if you ever do see it.

Actually RHPS was SOO famous that the Spanish version of The Time Warp was sung by a Mexican teenage group (both boys and girls) called Timbiriche. It was a big hit, and all we kids used to dance to it... Of course, we didn't know that it was part of that movie, and maybe that's the reason why they took the "literary license" of translating the title to El baile del Sapo (the frog dance)

Personally, I like to see the costumed people more so than the show. I love dressing up for Rocky because it's the exact opposite of who I am. Yea, fishnet. My friends were actually gaping at me the first time I stalked through the door in my Rocky clothes. Uninhibited, that's the way I feel when I dress out.

I never could understand why that movie gained such fame and cult-like adoration. It was amusing enough, I suppose, but...I don't know, it's so overdone now, it's just another cliche'.

and on a slightly different note--ever since there was that guy here that verbally attacked someone for expressing their opinion, I feel the need to add a disclaimer to any posts that express how I feel about something, even (and especially, I guess) when that opinion goes against what seems to be the accepted view. I hate that.

The best part of The Time Warp is, you don't need a snowboard to make it funny. I get plenty of amusement just by watching a theatre full of people jumping around in the tiny aisles.

For anyone who's never been to a midnight showing of RHPS, you must go sometime. It's such an experiance. Between getting frisked for the first time and finding rice in my bag for the next 3 months, it's an experiance I'll never forget.

It's just a jump to the left.
And a step to the right.
With your hands on your hips.
You bring your knees in tight.
But it's the pelvic thrust.
They really drive you insane.
Let's do the Time Warp again.

I think I would pay to see people do that stuck to snowboards. As a seasoned RHPS theatre regular, that is one of the few things I have yet to see at our theatre.

Whooo! Actually, the first two times I saw RHPS, I fell asleep. And I would have the next two times, too, but for people poking me to make sure I stayed awake. It's become a running joke among my friends, who know all the callbacks and everything, that someone needs to keep an eye on me when they put the tape in...

And yeah, I can definitely see filming snowboarders trying to cross flat ground, and playing "Time Warp" to it... Hee, that would make a funny video. *wanders off mumbling ideas*

I'll be patting myself on the back all season for having had the foresight in June (when I was more gainfully employed) to spend $200 for a student season pass, so I can now enjoy boarding for free. (Well, ok, gas money to friends of mine with cars. But anyway.)

This quote was one of the first in a long time that made me snicker out loud. For those of you who aren't familiar with snowboarding, here's bit of info: unlike skis, snowboards only work downhill. The half pipes you see boarders doing tricks on are subtly sloped downhill, and the jumps you see snowboarders zooming up require gathering a lot of speed beforehand.

With snowboarding, of your feet are strapped to the same flat object, and you don't have poles, so it's not really like skis where you can propel yourself forward by skating back and forth on your skis, or pushing with your poles. When snowboarders hit flat parts, they have to either have to take off their boards and hike, or undo their bindings on one foot and skate along, skateboard-style, or do lame, exhausting hopping forward with the board still attached until the snow is sloping downward again.

This remains the only negative thing about snowboarding, but also makes the idea of cross country snowboarding one of the biggest jokes of snow sports. (Unless you have one of those boards that can split in half and become skis, but that's hardly boarding once the board is split.)

And for those of you with even less of a knowledge of the Rocky Horror Picture Show than I have, The Time Warp contains lyrics about how the dance is "Just a jump to the left, and a step to the right."

Here endeth the lesson.
