Hello to all the readers of Playboy -- you folks obviously do read it for the articles.

Yep, In Passing got a one-line mention in the "Living Online" section on page 32 of the July issue. I wonder if they knew that I once considered "short attention span voyeurism" as a tagline for this site...

Many thanks to reader Scott for cluing me in, and to the clerk at Tower for being so amusingly confused when I went to buy the issue. (The story of the latter is in the comments, for the curious.)

On a trip to DC in high school I had an opportunity to buy a copy of Playgirl. I regret that I was too shy to do so.

I knew a liquor store in Chicago (Cardinal, west on Diversey) which sold the Polish language edition of Playboy. I never did buy an issue for the articles.

Wouldn't the martial art which involves jumping be spelled hopkido?

Dear "Dad" (I can't call you Parental Unit - that's how I refer to my parents)

Nice to have you popping by. And, had I had the opportunity to make a guess as to Eve's past jumping prowess, I would have guessed a) seventh grade jope-rope champion, or b) her last name is Walenda.

Never in my somewhat bent dreams would I have guessed Scottish sword dancing. Being from a small Midwestern German town, I don't believe I've ever heard of Scottish sword dancing. Surely, had I attempted this at age five, I would have at least one artificial limb.

But hey, thanks for raising such an interesting, and obviously talented daughter. We wouldn't be here without her!

Given my physiology (and especially my father's), it seems likely that someone in my past was a champion (or at least very good) caber tosser.
My dad's 5'11", 260lbs (mostly muscle), with a 6'5" armspan, and a 32" inseam. Gorilla-esque proportions, anyone?

KW - Scottish sword dancing *can* be fun, but you would not believe the amount of practice it takes. Also, of course, you have to have a kilt as part of your costume and it has to be a 'formal' tartan (white in it) and your own sword (anybody want to buy Eve's?) and ... It gets complicated.

But it is impressive and as hard as it looks and if any of you want to see it, just check around for a Highland games (they're worldwide, usually in the summer). We used to travel extensively to 6 or more games a summer for Eve to compete in. They learn poise, and the ability to perform in front of a crowd (at 5 years old Eve performed before 3,000 people and took 2nd place).

Eve too is also related to Scottish royality, James 3rd (or so family legend goes). But that far back, who knows?

But of course, royality is one thing, but the self earned title of site goddess, is more impressive. Correct?

1. Sorry Slugbuggy, I guess I just thought of you as a 'bunny' sort of person.

2. Ray Bradbury - It's just you. And if you've ever seen sword dancing you'd know it is, shall we say, difficult.

3. Slugbuggy, answer to your cross-post - Dinna ye know that there's a strong French aspect to Scots? Have ye never heard of Mary Stuart (Queen of Scots) who was married to the King of France? Aw, ye should all go and take a class in European History. Besides that, ye can be a Highland Dancer and be of any nationality.

Imagine my surprise. Maybe it was these posts, which seem kinda vague:

"I happen to be in this issue" would also have worked as a response, without being any more specific as to exactly how.

and then this-

Yay for me, and thanks, but to be honest I had plenty of time to sit here and think about it, and I don't know if I could have been able to keep a straight face. But I would have liked to have seen the guy furiously flipping through the pages looking for the layout.

That's not her...that's not her...that's nice, but it's not her...maybe that's her ankle sticking out from under that pile of bodies....

The "her" in question would have been Eve, if she had used that line, not me.

Well WYCKD wins 4 PU (Parental Unit) points for figuring out that Eve used to compete in Scottish sword dancing! -- Also the Highland fling and a few other dances too. Aye and she's won trophies for it too!

So my reference/inference was that if Eve can jump on one foot (actually 'on toe') over and back of crossed swords without touching them, you'd think she could jump on a tramp too, but evidently her increasing age has sapped her agility.

Thanks Jon for the nod, I usually do read IP and no I don't have a blog, because if I did then you all would be able to figure out who Eve is! (Did you think I just fell off the turnip truck here Bucky?)

Three things:
#1: Hooray for Parental Unit! Glad to hear from Eve's Dad again after the 'oops they're reading IP' thread. I'd track it down, but my IP Search Engine is on the fritz. *wink wink*

On the other foot: While sb *is* that cool, to be fair SNL is shown in reruns on various channels, often(frequently) on Comedy Central, and lately on E! So someone of less refined vintage, such as myself, could have understood the reference. (I'm not guessing anyone's age here) Also, there was the 'Coneheads' movie, which the imdb cites as from 1993.

And C: Does Parental Unit have a blog?

Youth, swords and jumping? How about Scottish sword-dancing? That neat little tradition where you sort of play hopscotch around crossed swords to music without killing yourself. Since I almost strangled myself while jumping rope I never considered trying it.

I'd guess figure skating, which involves much jumping and landing, and the use of edged blades, but then they're not properly weapons, unless you're talking about hockey, in which anything and everything can and will be used as a weapon, but then there's not much jumping going on. Unless there's some kind of hockey/figure skating hybrid I'm not aware of.

Triple lutz, pass to Swanson, he's going for the triple axel, no, he only got a double on that, points will be deducted for the wobbly landing, passes the puck to LaFromage, he's going to shoot...GOAL! And nice choice of music for that routine, I think it's the Jupiter symphony.

I doubt that that's it. Is it a competitive sport, or is it more of a performance or exhibition type of thing? Is it more common in different parts of the world (like France maybe)?

OK slugbunny, you get the 2.5 pts for the French reference. Actually Eve did take horse riding lessons as a young lady and did fall off a few times (but no injuries), but that's not the jumping reference I was making.

Let's see if she lets this thread go, and then I'll give you another hint.

BTW, you've gotten a horse drunk and on a trampoline?????????????

Oh, do I get to award cool points? Is that permitted for one who's over 40? (But I do have a tres cool daughter, and that's got to count for something. Maybe they're derivative cool points.)

Matt, Nice catch on the Coneheads reference, you get 1.5 cool points for it. For an additional 2.5 points and a chance to go to the bonus round, where did the Coneheads always say they were from and what does that have to do with Eve? (Really hard one).

As far as I know you ain't even close on her jumping experiences. But of course, she's going to delete this stuff once she reads it anyway.

Apple,

That's because, as a Dad, we're ambivalent (see earlier posting) about our children's injuries. On the one hand we don't ever want them to get hurt, but on the other hand we want them to learn from the experience (and reading the injuries thread shows that IP'ers have lots of experiences with dumb injuries!) so as not to do it again.

Fortunately, as a site goddess, Eve is, of course, incapable of repeating her mistake and probably won't get on a trampoline again (hint, hint Eve!)

And, to get back to the original thread here, while Eve probably *could* be in Playboy, she's more than smart enough to want to only be in there 'for the articles!'. Which, as a Parental Unit, is fine with me.

The other 'hint' in my earlier posting is for anyone to figure out what Eve's done that involves jumping (NO ONE will get this).
