I wanted to post new material today, but I just couldn't. It seems disrespectful... I suppose this is survivor guilt for someone thousands of miles away. As much as I recognize that a lot of people could use a diversion right now, I feel like it's just too soon. My friends and I tried going to a movie tonight, to take our minds off everything.

Somewhere on the top ten list of signs that you're emotionally unwell is crying at the movie American Pie 2.

Yeah.

In the meantime, if you would like a diversion, I reccommend the archives here, or something simple and funny, like the Brunching site. Grocery store humor is safe. Ha, ha, Alanis Morissette sure has lyrics that are easily mocked.

Normally I find that site pretty funny... I guess I'm not very good at being distracted.

Hang in there, folks. May tomorrow be better than today was

If anyone is truly desperate for a distraction, try the adventure game I made. You should be very desperate, though, as the graphics will be among the worst you have seen, the plot will be transparent and it may offend those with little tolerance to shadey ethics. It does, however, have a talking cow and goblins.

I sincerely hope everyone at least makes an attempt to get things back to as normal as possible this weekend. It would be a good time to practice normalcy, even though I am expecting the 'military response' to come very, very soon.

I intend to go watch my son perform in the marching band at his high schools football game tonight. I am sure they are planning something patriotic, and I am looking forward to it.

Tomorrow morning I will coach my younger son's soccer team, and I'm sure the final score will be even less relevant than usual as we all simply try to enjoy our children enjoying themselves.

Let's not forget, countless lives have been sacrificed or altered permanently in some way defending the freedom and way of life civilized society enjoys today. It would be a grave disservice to those who have fought and suffered protecting our way of life if we ceased to live our lives in just the way those brave souls were defending.

Montygirl, I would feel as worried as yourself, about flying. If you need any encouraging thoughts, let me know. Any "ribbing" I would do would be of a cheering-up kind, I promise.

I know what you mean Eve. On Wednesday I had to go to meet friends in the city but I didn't want to (and I think most people shared my feelings because the city was almost empty). I spent the evening walking around with a friend of mine whose uncle worked in the world trade building (but is OK) with the two of us just wondering aimlessly and feeling upset. Canberra was on alert and the US embassy was blocked off and all women and children had been moved to a safe location. There was no air traffic.

Because we're here everyone's just doing their thing but most everyone is experiencing a complete undercurrent of sadness/ anger etc etc. Some socialists have put posters up around uni which all but say that America deserved to be bombed because of their treatment of other countries so my friends and I and many other people have either ripped them down or pasted over them with posters that read "these posters offend our common humanity".

It's just so wrong.

Distractions, eh?

I stumbled onto this earlier today. I don't know if it's a distraction, though-- more like a patience test. As in, "how long until you snap and leave?"

This might be good for a laugh. "Superman vs. Muhammad Ali"-- 'nuff said.

Mmh-- I lost most of my favorite links recently (damn crashy computer), so the only other sites I know offhand are-- um-- *ahem* unsavory. (And mostly illegal, I guess.)

I'll keep looking, I guess.

Oh, and take all the time you need, Eve. It's perfectly understandable.

Normally I would recommend Dave Barry's weekly humour column at http://www.miami.com/herald/special/features/barry/ but not this week...I went there looking for diversion, and (I should have expected) he didn't do one, he wrote about what happened, and I don't know, just seeing one more thing about it when I was just trying to take my mind off the hook for half an hour, I just broke down and cried, thank god my roommate wasn't in the room at the time, she's from New York and lord knows she's going through a lot worse than what I am...anyway, the archives are very funny, though...

im an nyu student, i actually live three or four
blocks from genevieve. a movie theater in the
neighborhood has been showing their regular
schedule of films but has, wonderfully,
suspended the collection of their charge.
believe it or not, the musketeer, that singularly
poorly made film, was just what i needed to
take my mind off the awful events of the past
few days. speaking of easily made fun of...

Eve, we understand completely. I can't speak for everyone, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels survivor's guilt.

thanks to everyone for their ideas on diversions ... I might need one later.

And while we're feeling so much emotion here, if any of you are the prayerful types, please say an extra one for me, as I just found out my client has decided to "go on with the show" which means I'm supposed to get on a plane this Saturday. Normally, I love traveling anywhere, but right now, not so much. Make fun of me all you want, I'll gladly take all your 'ribbing' when I return safely back home.

For possible distractions, check out the archives on my blog (see namelink). (The latest posts have been about the attacks, so I don't recommend them if you're looking for a distraction....)

As always, www.theonion.com! Also, www.montykins.com has an appropriate post today.

Humor is still the second best medicine. Love is the first. Show your family and friends how much you love them.

Stressed? Try a daily dosage of zen meditation or taoist thought.
