Happy Birthday In Passing!
Roughly one year ago today, I put the first entry on this site. The page had a jpg with an abstract purple design for background, there wasn't a passed by section, or an about page, much less polls and links. And the page got about 10 hits a week until September.
6 months and 1.75 million hits later, In Passing has changed quite a bit, and it even has its own community (or cult, depending on how you look at it.)
It's been a good trip so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes (Lance isn't the only one who can dream of world domination through web sites.) Many thanks to everybody who has visited and contributed so far!

Not the Vulgar Boatmen song! : )

OK, Mike, you caught me. I'm a MIB flying my black helicopter, and trying to catch you in the Mafia-CIA-McDonald's-Parcheesi World Conspiracy! Coming to a theater near you.

Maybe it's flattery, and maybe it's an attempt by my mind-reading enemies to thwart my grandiose plans!

...And why are you so quick to defend them? (*paranoid glare*)

Imitation and flattery, though, Mike.

Um, yeah, I kinda was. Wondering, I mean.
Tinky-Winky? Thanks but NO thanks. I have a laptop, and I'll be damned before I explain to people why I have a Teletubby on my lap as I surf!

And no, I've never read Robinson's "Mars" series. I did see The Venus Wars once when it came on the Sci-Fi Channel, but I had already had the idea. Plagiarists.

Oooh! Oooh! *waving hand in the air frantically*

If it's purple you want, a Tinky-Winky doll would be just the right shade. Just don't invite Reverend Falwell over to your house(good advice in any event).

That was in reference to putting something purple on top of Mike's computer. In case you were wondering.

Let's take tequila shots... oops, sorry, wrong topic! : )

IPTV: Your source for "out of context" - next up, "If it weren't for my horse..."

Btw, Mike, have you read the Kim Stanley Robinson "Mars" series? I only mention it because they actually start terraforming Venus.

Anonymous, that's a good question! Eve, don't tell us that Bla-Bla hasn't noticed the lack of banner ads?
Oh, and just because I'm a dork like that, I thought I'd let you guys know that Jason Smith wins "Longest Post."
Although he did have that "half screen" problem....

Congrats! But how are you paying for all that bandwidth, without the banner ads? Is there a PayPal or Amazon donation button somewhere...?

I just want to say I love this site. I've only been reading it since August, but I've become addicted. So much so that I got my bed sheets and comforter to match the site (my sheets are purple and my comforter is white). Okay, that isn't why I bought them, but it sounded good :)

And is it not indeed fitting that on this grand and glorified occasion a new record for comment count has been set?

Oh yeah, for award catagories, how about on-topic namelinks?

Archived comment by Matt:
Absolutely. The First Annual In Passing Awards. I think an award needs to be given to whomever came up with "Eve S. Dropper," if only because Site Goddess chose it (I refuse to let that moniker die), along with Commenter (commentator?) awards categorized much the same way Eve herself has categorized her postings. And Mike should definitely get something kitzchy to put on top of his computer (a stuffed animal in the appropriate shade of mauve, perhaps? or is that color just purple?).

Somebody, please, help me out. I'm sure we could get some volunteers to go back through all the old comments to ferret out the top 5 nominees in several categories.

.."you look like a monkey, and you smell like one, toooooo"....

whoa.
Am I singing the wrong song?

There are 3 things I can't start my day without:
Shower, coffee, and In Passing.
Thanks, Eve. You rock.

and Mike...you are such a part of this site that sometimes I read Eve's post of the day and even before I click on "view", I am already thinking, "Man... I can't wait to see what Mike had to say about this..."

I think the awards idea is a great one!!

What, no cake?
Happy birthday! Although I must say that the hits are probably disproportionately concentrated among a few cult-- ah, individuals.

Okay, you can have "world domination." That's overdone, anyway. My life's goal-- to terraform Venus. 'Cause if you're gonna dream, you dream big, and go your own way. Rule Earth-- feh! How very "Dr. Doom."

Geez, any honors coming my way should be redirected towards my neighbors, who keep me up day and night with their foolishness until there's nothing else to do but put on some headphones and rail at the universe through my computer.
...And also to the posters who came before me, and presented such a spirited and friendly forum that I didn't hesitate to jump in. It's honor enough to follow in their footsteps.

Wherever the hell most of them went. :^)

Thank you, Eve, for a fun year. Well, fun 7 months, in my case. Good luck on your dream of world domination, I think you would be good at the job.

Jon, nothing personal, but I think Mike can beat anyone when it comes to long, drawn out rants on pretty much any subject out there. Now, please, I don't everyone to get competitive, trying to outrant Mike, but look back over the past few months of posts. Mike...he is like the Energizer bunny, and just keeps going and going.

Almost forgot another category: longest rant. Hmm, I might be in the running for that, unless Mike wants to dig up his longest post? ;)

(Wow, man, 1.75 million hits of IP - no wonder I'm so buzzed! *jk*)

All hail the high priestess of the IP cult! "For great justice."

There are those who might disagree with me, but frankly, for all of the categories you mentioned Phil, and a number of other possible ones, Mike would have to be at least a nominee, if not the winner.
