"Something's fishy... in Denmark."

-My boss, talking to an employee about something that involves neither fish nor Denmark.

Ah, I recognise the rags of a poorly-remembered classical education; he must have been misquoting Hamlet.

"Misquoting Hamlet? But I thought I knew him well!"

Mmm, trivial.

"Alternatively, Barnum's rival Adam Forepaugh reportedly observed that a sucker was born every minute during a newspaper interview.

hee. and that is, verifiably, a direct quote.

Misquoted Hamlet would be a great band name...

Thanks, Daen! I've been hurting my brain trying to remember what was misquoted. For some reason, Inspector Clouseau kept staying at the front. Anybody know why, possibly??

I'm Apple, and I approve this message.

Because Clouseau (sp?) reminded you of Poirot, who is Belgian, which is very much like being Danish in that it involves coming from somewhere small that usually gets mistaken for somewhere else.

Ergo, Denmark -> Clouseau, eventually.

At least, that's how my train of thought went.

I have not been able to rigourously prove this, but doing some preliminary research on the matter, there seems to be some evidence that "Something's fishy...in Denmark" is indeed a quote from an Inspector Clouseau movie. Never underestimate Apple, her memory exceeds even her own expectations.
