Spotted lying near the river:
One of those really nice labyrinth games-- the kind made of wood, where you move the metal ball through the maze by turning dials on the side of the box to tilt the platform suspended inside.

If you haven't seen one of these toys, you likely have no idea what I'm talking about. But you can still understand the randomness of it being down by the river.

Oh come one, none of you guys ever beat that? I had one when I was younger, and spent a lot of time on it. I finally beat the stuffing out of it. (Figuratively!)

It's not that random when you consider those style of toys can be really /really/ annoying depending on how many pit holes are in the maze setup ...

Lesser things have driven people to throw things in the river, I'm sure.

Hey, my grandpa had one of those. And I just saw one living at the Ugly Mug coffee house in Santa Cruz. I played with it for a while, but then I had to leave for work.

Hey, I know those games! I haven't seen one in yonks, but I was thinking just last week that I'd love to track one down for my daughter. I spent many a frustrating hour trying to get that goddamned ball from Point A to Point B without dropping it down one of those dratted holes. I'm sure it was character building, or something.

Careful, you don't want this to end up like
Jumanji.

*sigh*
I'm going to have to make something similar to this my signature visual (I do CG for games). I once took a picture of a PC monitor splashing down from a bridge. Figured that was going to be it, but unforunately, I'm now convinced that I'm a terrible photographer. At least, I'm pretty good at 3D Studio MAX, so I'm going to make a floating marble labyrinth scene.

It really *was* like that when I got here,
