One can just imagine several years for now, an embittered individual, mewing in his cups about how if someone had just told him that his plan was floored, he wouldn't be bummed out and broke with no more motivation.

Don't knock writing on a napkin. I can recall some serious world-changing things that we used to write on napkins at the Crest (pizza place).

And Compaq computer was started by writing on a placemat (they've featured that placemat in ads for years).
