"Penis is a taboo word?"

...A good sign you've been in liberal college land too long.
A friend of mine was recently reprimanded "for foul language," by a woman sitting next to him on an airplane, because he said that "airplane food sucks."
Yikes.

A friend of mine was teaching biology to sixth graders in an area of Pennsylvania that was apparently heavily Mennonite. She got into trouble with the school board (in a public school) for saying that things "sucked" and for calling rat testicles "balls" in casual conversation.

The she quit her job and moved to Boston...

It all depends on where you are (what counts as foul that is). My mother once gave me lecture for using the word 'fart'. OTH, my ex-boss uses f*** (I didn't fill in the blanks so as not to offend 'sensitive' viewers) all the time & it's a running gag that she does so.
PS I'm from North Carolina.

I too am from Ireland and I curse like a sailor. Of course, I live on a coastal sea port town, so I probably did learn it from a sailor

And what's even scarier is that it took me reading this post to realize that *I'd* been in liberal college land so long that I didn't realize these were taboo words either. Although I am smart enough to not point that out loudly in a class...

(and for the record, my email should not be taken to imply I like Hanson, it's just one of many variation on my nickname)
