Especially funny when you remember that the Christmas tree is actually a Germanic pagan practice. The fir/pine tree symbolized eternal life (green in the 'dead' time/winter), you bring it in, decorate with other symbols of light & life to celebrate the return of the sun (also known as winter solstice), then burn it.
