Okay, I've started reading Flatland and already have a question stuck in my head that's been there since Chapter One: are shadows two-dimensional? They have length and width, but no depth. Does that count, or am I forgetting something obvious? What if gravity is a three dimensional version of shadowing, a side effect of some fourth-dimesional process twisted into our three dimensional world through its interaction with 3d mass?
