Well, let's see... when I moved a few months ago, my combined rent and utilities went from $8700 a year (25% of my gross income) to $6700 a year, and I'm just renting one room in a house. Six months ago my girlfriend bought a modest home in the hills above Montclair, Oakland for $660,000... so yeah. I guess living out here can be a little pricy.

But it never snows, it rarely drops below 35, even at night, the people are more open and accepting of difference than most parts of the country, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Now if I could only get that hottie from Iowa to move out here...
