Outsourcing

That was a topic of discussion that was brought up in my job interview last Tuesday. The recruiter pointed out that while it left managers and project leadership positions over here, if taken to an extreme the people in those positions wouldn't have quite the same depth of knowledge about the work, not having put in their time in the trenches. The company's goal, he claimed, is to put together a group of coding "grunts" at under the standard salary (basically at an entry level salary) to help keep the work costs down somewhat, keep 'em for two years so they get that experience, and then either promote them into open positions, or send them off with a nice bit on the resume and a positive recommendation. I'm supposed to email him back with my thoughts on the plan - personally, I think it's an interesting plan, anybody else have any thoughts?

(And if this is incoherent, it's because I'm trying to work on a 15-page paper that's due at 5pm, along with a 20-25 minute PowerPoint presentation on that paper to be given tonight, and I've been up all night, haven't gotten a lot of sleep the past several nights as I've been finishing up a month and a half+ long "procrastination dance" as my friend Sara likes to say on the paper. And on top of it, we took Sara out last night to the bar to celebrate her 21st birthday.)

-There's someone in my head, but it's not me.-
