Unfortunately, what tim describes is all too common. And if you have some guy who's been trapped into fatherhood by some twit like the one in the quote, it's all that much more likely to happen- his resentment may build until it explodes. Or the mother may realize just how badly she screwed up and take it out on the baby.
While I wasn't really serious about tying her tubes, nevertheless a lot of horrible things could be avoided if people like her couldn't reproduce at will.
