hypo - the punishment was pretty trivial and was far, far lighter than any conservative woulda gotten but more importantly was the fact that there were darn few (if any) 'progressive' voices that criticized him, they were all apologetic. If, say, 'W' had silenced a free press there woulda been burnings in effigy but, IMHO, a number of persons apply a double-standard when it comes to 'liberals' who suppress speech that they don't like.
